My picks for the week (Leave yours in the comments):

Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) at Vanderbilt Commodores - SEC Network - 11:21am CST: Georgia's ginger QB doesn't play well in the daylight. A.M. kickoff in Nashville. Can UGA make yet another previously inept offense look good? Georgia 17, Vandy 12

Mississippi State Bulldogs (-4.5) at Middle Tennessee State - ESPNU - 12:30pm EST: Sad. MSU is only a 4.5 point favorite to a team that got shallacked by Troy and whose offense is coached by Tony Franklin. The Bolldogs nearly beat Houston last week and will take down MTSU convincingly. Miss. State 38, MTSU 17.

Arkansas Razorbacks (+24.5) at Florida Gators - CBS - 3:30pm EST: Florida's defense is stout, and probably capable of putting pressure on Mallett and covering his receivers like Bama did. Coming off a big, emotional win over LSU in Baton Rouge with all the Tebow Concussion drama, UF may come out a little flat. Will the Coach's let Tebow be Tebow or play it conservative as they did against LSU? Florida 35, Arkansas 21

Ole Miss Rebels (-22) vs. UAB Blazers - Fox Sports Net - 7:00pm EST: Can Ole Miss score 22 points? UAB burned several of us already when we picked them to cover as a 9-point dog against Troy. Not this time, Blazers. Ole Miss 27, UAB 3

Kentucky Wildcats (+13) at Auburn Tigers - ESPNU - 7:30pm EST: Kentucky limps into Auburn banged up at several positions including their starting QB, who probably won't play. I think Auburn is mad about their performance last week and looking to show they're better than what they showed against the piggies. UK is catching them at just the wrong time. Auburn 37, Kentucky 14

South Carolina Gamecocks (+17) at Alabama Crimson Tide - ESPN - 7:45pm EST: I wonder how much of a trap game this might be between Ole Miss and Tennessee. SC's defense is pretty good, and Garcia has shown lots of improvement over last year. Upset special? Alabama 24, South Carolina 17

Bonus, Non-SEC Picks:

Texas (-3) vs. Oklahoma: Don't ask me why, but I have a feeling that the Sooners get it done. Oklahoma 31, Texas 24

Virginia Tech (-3) at Georgia Tech - using our normal ACC Pick'em Rule (always pick the cold ACC team over the hot ACC team) is tough here, Va Tech beat BC bad last week and is only 3 weeks from their beat down of Miami, but Ga Tech just outscored a favored FSU at Tallahassee. But the Jackets are playing a bit above their heads as a team with no discernible defense, and they've won the last 3 weeks. Their streak ends Saturday. Va Tech 27, Ga Tech 18

7 comments:

  1. Picks, hopefully better than last week:

Georgia (-7.5): I know this game lately has been close, but Vanderbilt lately has been morose. I'm a poet and didn't even know it.

Miss. St. (-4.5): Only 4.5, huh? OK, I'll bite. Does somebody know something I don't?

Arkansas (+24.5): I'll just on the Arkansas bandwagon. Oh yeah, if Florida can't score like last week, this is a shoe-in. Florida still wins, but not by 24.5.

Ole Miss (-22): UAB looked good for 1 game, then for the rest, not so much. Ole Miss is lucky to get such an easy I-A opponent.

Kentucky (+13): As I alluded to in my earlier preview post, I don't think Auburn will be able to hold Kentucky to just a few points. Auburn wins, but only by 4.

    S. Carolina (+17): Alabama may be one of the best teams in the nation, but S. Carolina is 6-0 if they could hold Georgia late. I like Bama to win and S. Carolina to beat the spread.

Oklahoma (+3): Commish, I don't think you're crazy. I like Oklahoma here, especially after Sam Bradford came back like a champion last week and Texas looked sluggish early against 1-3 (at the time) Colorado. You can't look sluggish against Oklahoma.

Va. Tech (-3): I keep picking against the Hokies and they keep showing me up. I know Georgia Tech's running game is ridiculously good, but Va. Tech is the real deal.

  2. Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) at Vanderbilt Commodores - SEC Network - 11:21am CST: Bulldogs win and cover.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (-4.5) at Middle Tennessee State - ESPNU - 12:30pm EST: As much as I hate to say it, State wins and covers.

Arkansas Razorbacks (+24.5) at Florida Gators - CBS - 3:30pm EST: I think Florida wins this one, but not by 24.5. That's a stout line for an SEC matchup...

Ole Miss Rebels (-22) vs. UAB Blazers - Fox Sports Net - 7:00pm EST: I like Ole Miss' defense shutting down their one dimensional offense and I think UAB's pass defense will be just what the doctor (psychologist!) ordered for Jevan "Headcase" Snead's confidence. Rebels win and cover.

Kentucky Wildcats (+13) at Auburn Tigers - ESPNU - 7:30pm EST: Tricky game to call. But, Auburn will be looking to prove to everyone they are a contender and they play well at night. Tigers win and cover.

South Carolina Gamecocks (+17) at Alabama Crimson Tide - ESPN - 7:45pm EST: After making the trek to Columbia for the first time earlier this year, I have a newfound respect for the Ole Ball Coach and his team. I have been saying since that game that Alabama better watch out for this one. It's gutsy to schedule Spurrier for Homecoming - a game usually seen as a gimme. I like Alabama to win this one in a close one and wouldn't be surprised (read: I'd be elated) if SC comes out of there with the win. The Tide wins, but not by 17.

    Bonus, Non-SEC Picks:

Texas (-3) vs. Oklahoma: Longhorns win and cover.

Virginia Tech (-3) at Georgia Tech: Ramblin' Wreck win in a squeaker.

  3. Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) at Vanderbilt Commodores - SEC Network - 11:21am CST: UGA wins and covers

Mississippi State Bulldogs (-4.5) at Middle Tennessee State - ESPNU - 12:30pm EST: ring those cowbells, state wins and covers

Arkansas Razorbacks (+24.5) at Florida Gators - CBS - 3:30pm EST: jorts win but don't cover

Ole Miss Rebels (-22) vs. UAB Blazers - Fox Sports Net - 7:00pm EST: rebels win and cover

Kentucky Wildcats (+13) at Auburn Tigers - ESPNU - 7:30pm EST: Auburn wins and covers, UK continues the downward spiral

South Carolina Gamecocks (+17) at Alabama Crimson Tide - ESPN - 7:45pm EST: Bammeroids win but don't cover

    Bonus, Non-SEC Picks:

Texas (-3) vs. Oklahoma: The other UT wins and covers

Virginia Tech (-3) at Georgia Tech: Virginia tech wins and covers

  4. Georgia over Vandy 24-10.

Miss. St. over Middle Tennessee and covers.

Florida over Arkansas but Arkansas keeps it within 3 touchdowns.

Ole Miss takes out their frustration on UAB by 3 touchdowns.

Auburn over Kentucky. Auburn covers the spread.

Alabama continues steam-rolling through the SEC, with a big win over South Carolina, by more than 3 touchdowns.

Oklahoma over Texas in a mild upset.

Georgia Tech also gets the upset over Va. Tech in a really close game.

  5. Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) at Vanderbilt Commodores - SEC Network - 11:21am CST: If Georgia doesn't cover, then I will just hate them more (as if that's possible). I still pick the UGAs to cover.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (-4.5) at Middle Tennessee State - ESPNU - 12:30pm EST: MTSU is hosting an SEC team. Good for them. They will lose by more than 4 for the privilege of doing so. Bulldogs cover.

Arkansas Razorbacks (+24.5) at Florida Gators - CBS - 3:30pm EST: Florida hasn't killed anyone in a while, Arkansas is not a garbage team, and 25 points is a lot. I go Arkansas here.

Ole Miss Rebels (-22) vs. UAB Blazers - Fox Sports Net - 7:00pm EST: Jevan has put himself out there and created motivation for this game. Ole Miss covers.

Kentucky Wildcats (+13) at Auburn Tigers - ESPNU - 7:30pm EST: Auburn by 2 touchdowns? Sounds good to me. I like some of Kentucky's athletes, but not enough of them. Auburn to cover.

South Carolina Gamecocks (+17) at Alabama Crimson Tide - ESPN - 7:45pm EST: This one is more out of prinicple than anything else. I have more fun when I pick the Gamecocks. Gamecocks win or make it close.

    Bonus, Non-SEC Picks:

Texas (-3) vs. Oklahoma: I had a worse shoulder injury than Sam Bradford a year ago. I took less time to come back from it. I only had to lawyer though, not play football against 280 pound defensive ends. That said, I don't think Sam has what it takes to hook the horns. Texas wins and covers.

Virginia Tech (-3) at Georgia Tech - Tech wins this one for sure. Virginia Tech, that is. By more than 3.

  6. Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) at Vanderbilt Commodores - SEC Network - 11:21am CST: UGA wins and covers the spread

Mississippi State Bulldogs (-4.5) at Middle Tennessee State - ESPNU - 12:30pm EST: MSU covers on MTSU

Arkansas Razorbacks (+24.5) at Florida Gators - CBS - 3:30pm EST: Gators win, but don't cover.

Ole Miss Rebels (-22) vs. UAB Blazers - Fox Sports Net - 7:00pm EST: Rebels win but don's cover

Kentucky Wildcats (+13) at Auburn Tigers - ESPNU - 7:30pm EST: AU needs a statement after losing to Arky, they win and cover here.

South Carolina Gamecocks (+17) at Alabama Crimson Tide - ESPN - 7:45pm EST: Tide wins but doesnt cover.

    Bonus, Non-SEC Picks:

Texas (-3) vs. Oklahoma: Longhorns prevail and cover.

Virginia Tech (-3) at Georgia Tech: Beamer keeps the streak going. VT covers.
