He did... Is it a big deal? Not for him.
ReplyDeleteI diasgree. It's a big deal because any other coach with a different skin color would have come under intense scrutiny and possibly been fired...
ReplyDeleteCall me old-fashioned, but I want coaches to coach and not chest bump and wave towels. I also want coaches who are hired to coach and not just to recruit and "be their friend."
Oh you guys, at least he didn't call him the much worse "n*****-guy" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_Apologies_to_Jesse_Jackson if you don't get the reference).
ReplyDeleteFrom Scarbinsky's Bham News column:
ReplyDeleteTo McNeil: “Gimme one, (garble). I’m witcha, baby. I’m witcha.”
It’s hard to tell exactly what Taylor called McNeil. If you heard the “n” word — even the friendly, unthreatening, ends in “a” version of it — Taylor told someone Monday, you heard wrong.
The ESPN game producer, Kim Belton, backed up Taylor. Belton, who happens to be black, told ABC 33/40 in Birmingham that Taylor called McNeil “Neil” for short.
I agree with Max, it's a shame we live in a society where Troop is allowed to use the n-word, and this guy can't.
ReplyDeleteCheap shot, Drake, cheap shot. By the way, I supported the elimination of the confederate flag as a symbol associated with Ole Miss and while I disagree with getting rid of Colonel Reb, I understand why the administration wanted to. By the way, the look of Colonel Reb was actually based on a legendary black man around Oxford known as Blind Jim.
ReplyDeleteThis was only a story under the sheets of the Karle/Finebaum loveshack...
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how the real news outlets either didn't touch this or interviewed people before they said anything... where Fox6 grabbed the yarn and ran, only the have a lovely amount of egg on their face.
