Okay, so the good news is the Rebels won 52-6 and escaped without any major injuries. The bad news is they looked sluggish and uninspired. I know, I know. Swine flu ran amok throughout the team and Jevan Snead's grandfather died last week so it has been an unusual season so far. The good guys were also playing an FCS team that is only slightly better than the Hoover High Bucs. Actually, come to think of it Hoover might give the Lions a run for their money...
Ole Miss used Saturday night's sloppy scrimmage to tune-up for the beginning of their play in the SEC - which is clearly (at this point) better than the rest of the BCS conferences.
There were some good moments at V-H stadium last night. DT Shackelford got some good PT as well as other younger, inexperienced players. Jevan Snead looked a little crisper in the second half than he did in the first, but he'll have to be focused and ready to go 60 minutes in Columbia Thursday night. It all starts with him. The Rebels had better be ready - owners of the #4 ranking in the new AP will have a target on their back and will have to play with more focus and energy if they're to defeat Steve Spurrier for the first time in school history.
Time for a rainy, Sunday afternoon nap. More on the Rebels and 'Cocks closer to Thursday...
**CORRECTION: Andy Hartmann, the starting FB for the Rebels is out 2 weeks and will miss the SC game Thursday night. His is the only injury of note...
