11/27/09

Alabama (-10) at Auburn (CBS 1:30 PM) - The Iron Bowl. Intense Rivalry. Throw out the records. Except don't really. The favorite usually wins this game. Auburn just doesn't have the talent to compete with Bama, especially on defense. Auburn won't be able to move the ball on Bama's stout defense. Bama rolls by more than 10. Bring on the Gators.

11/28/2009
Clemson (-3) at South Carolina (ESPN 11:00 AM) - Clemson has been surging of late, winning 6 in a row since starting the season 2-3, winning their division, and setting up a rematch with GA Tech for the ACC championship. SC is on the opposite trajectory, having started the season 5-1 but now sitting at 6-5. The 'Cocks last win was 10/24 against Vandy. Clemson will win by more than three, and begin yet another round of "How long will Spurrier stay at South Carolina" speculation.

Ole Miss (-8) at Mississippi State (SEC Network 11:21 AM) - The Egg Bowl. Ole Miss is on a bit of a roll, coming off home wins against Tennessee and LSU. How will they play in Starkville with a new-look Mullen-led Bulldog team looking to avenge last year's embarrassing loss? Pretty well, I'd say. Still, I think the LSU game took a lot out of the Rebs. I think they'll win, but I think maybe MSU keeps it close. I'll take the cowbells and the points.

Florida State (+24.5) at Florida (CBS 2:30 PM) - How much pleasure can one take from beating up on a confused, old man? Trick question: Mayer's CPU is not programmed to experience what you humans call emotions. His phasers are set to "dominate" and that's what his team will do? But not by 24.5. Not with Bama next week with a chance for another NC on the line. Gators win in a blowout, just not a 25 point blowout.

Tennessee (-3) at Kentucky (ESPNU 6:00 PM) - this is the toughest pick of the week for me. UT seemed depleted in their game against Ole Miss. Plus, have you heard they'v had some off-field distractions? A tune-up against Vandy may be just what the Vols needed. The Wildcats just beat Georgia in Athens and earlier this year beat Auburn in Auburn. UK is 7-4 and a win over UT would make them the 2nd place team in the East. Wildcats at home and a 3 point 'dog makes me pick UK in what I expect to be a game that could go either way.

Arkansas (+3.5) at LSU (ESPN 6:00 PM) - This is another tough game to pick. I can see Mallet and the Hogs shredding a Tiger team still hungover from the "debacle in Oxford." If the game comes down to 4th quarter time-management, I'll take the shark-eyed Petrino's team 8 days a week. So, I guess I'll take the soowee pigs, minus the points.

Georgia (+7.5) at Georgia Tech (ABC 7:00 PM) - I expect Ga Tech to win in a shootout. The Jackets would have approximately the same defensive stats on the year if they just put 11 homeless Atlanta panhandlers on the field when the other team has the ball. On the other side of the field, the English-speaking world would be shocked if defensive coordinator Willie Martinez remains employed in Athens next year. Result: lots and lots of points. I think Ga Tech should win, but UGA may be able to score enough to keep it within 8. So, I'll take the 'dogs and the points and probably regret it on Sunday.

Bonus Picks:

Pittsburgh at West Virginia (straight up) - Mountaineers upset the Panthers dream season.

Notre Dame (+10) at Stanford - The Cardinal will send Charlie Weis packing in a manner befitting his tenure - a narrow loss to a suposedly inferior team. So, I guess I'm taking the Irish and the points.

7 comments:

  1. Alabama (-10) at Auburn (CBS 1:30 PM) - Everyone seems to think Bama will sleepwalk through this one. For some reason, I like Auburn and the points.

Clemson (-3) at South Carolina (ESPN 11:00 AM) - Gamecocks surprise the visiting Tigers and give Spurrier some much needed optimism heading into bowl season and recruiting.

Ole Miss (-8) at Mississippi State (SEC Network 11:21 AM) - Listened to the Podcast on this game and had to laugh. Ole Miss won this game 45-0 last year. Even if State, and their new humpbacked coach who can't seem to bring himself to say "Ole Miss" in a disingenuous hatred of a school about which he knows nothing, have cut the difference in half from last year the Rebels will still win by 21 or more. Take the Rebels and the points and let the leghumpers eat the hype for dessert.

Florida State (+24.5) at Florida (CBS 2:30 PM) - Gators win but don't cover.

Tennessee (-3) at Kentucky (ESPNU 6:00 PM) - I like UK in this one.

Arkansas (+3.5) at LSU (ESPN 6:00 PM) - LSU comes out fired up, wins and covers. But, I'm rooting for the Hogs!

Georgia (+7.5) at Georgia Tech (ABC 7:00 PM) - Dawgs and the points.

    Bonus Picks:

Pittsburg at West Virginia (straight up) - Pitt wins.

Notre Dame (+10) at Stanford - Stanford wins a close one by 3.

  3. My picks (let's hope for a strong finish):

Alabama (-10): I would've figured the line for more like 17. Unfortunately I don't think Auburn will be able to keep up for four quarters. I hope I'm wrong.

Clemson (-3): Again, I would've figured this line was higher. At least one Tigers team will win this week.

Ole Miss (-8): Ole Miss is playing better, especially now that they've knocked off a top 10 team. Despite this being a rivalry game, Mississippi State can't hang with the Rebs.

Florida State (+24.5): Bobby Bowden has to coach the game of his life, potentially for his job. Florida has to show why they are ranked #1. So much drama, this would fit right into my stories.

Tennessee (-3): This game really could go either way, but I think Tennessee wants it more to show they are legit. Kentucky has already show they are.

LSU (-3.5): After last week's disappointing giveaway by the Mad Hatter, LSU comes back, fired up, ready to show they are still relevant.

Georgia Tech (-7.5): I like the option attack against the team that couldn't beat Kentucky, and if they couldn't beat Kentucky, they certainly can't beat Tech.

Pittsburgh (+0): Really? I know West Virginia is good and all, but Pittsburgh is the real deal. Panthers beat the Mountaineers by at least 5.

Notre Dame (+10): The Fighting Irish are not bad at scoring points, and Stanford showed they can't keep up the momentum. I'll take Charlie Weis in his (potentially) last game at South Bend.

  4. I meant, for Charlie Weis, last game as coach in South Bend. Obviously the game isn't at South Bend. Pardonnez-moi!

  5. Alabama (-10) at Auburn (CBS 1:30 PM) - extended preview on the blog. Tide wins and covers.

Clemson (-3) at South Carolina (ESPN 11:00 AM) - Clemson wins and covers

Ole Miss (-8) at Mississippi State (SEC Network 11:21 AM) - For some reason I have a feeling MSU will upset here.

Florida State (+24.5) at Florida (CBS 2:30 PM) - Gators win but don't cover.

Tennessee (-3) at Kentucky (ESPNU 6:00 PM) - Tennessee covers now that Janzen Jackson is back.

Arkansas (+3.5) at LSU (ESPN 6:00 PM) - Arky wins here. Miles buys a watch.

Georgia (+7.5) at Georgia Tech (ABC 7:00 PM) - Tech wins and covers

    Bonus Picks:

Pittsburg at West Virginia (straight up) - The mustache for Pit is too much for the Mountaineers to overcome.

Notre Dame (+10) at Stanford - Stanford wins and covers

  6. Alabama (-10) at Auburn (CBS 1:30 PM) - Earlier in the year I would have picked the Tigers here. However, I am note sure about that pick this late in the season. Bama will win this one by two big scores and cover.

    11/28/2009
Clemson (-3) at South Carolina (ESPN 11:00 AM) - There is nary a team/school/fanbase in the world more worthy of hatred than Clempson's (or Clemzin depending on who is saying it). I don't think it is a question of who is more physically talented (USC is), or who has more fake hype (Clemson). It is more a question of who is mentally stronger (Clemson I hate to say, but mainly because they do not have to worry about logic or reality in their mentality). Because of the occassion, and the author, I will go with the home team and the Cocks to win this one huge. Talent outweighs fake hype and insane levels of self assurance.

Ole Miss (-8) at Mississippi State (SEC Network 11:21 AM) - Earlier in the year I would have taken the underdog here. Lately, though, I don't think that is the wise choice. Ole Miss to cover in this one.

Florida State (+24.5) at Florida (CBS 2:30 PM) - Not that Florida will completely overlook FSU and game plan already for Bama, but I do expect Florida to not risk showing too much this week. Florida state with these points will be my pick here.

Tennessee (-3) at Kentucky (ESPNU 6:00 PM) - I have to take Tennessee here. KU is hit or miss it seems, but I think 3 points is a little low for this line. Vols cover.

Arkansas (+3.5) at LSU (ESPN 6:00 PM) - LSU will be mentally sharp after this past week. They will also be at home. Tigers pull this one out.

Georgia (+7.5) at Georgia Tech (ABC 7:00 PM) - at Georgia Tech? I'll take the far superior home team here to win by 8 or more.

    Bonus Picks:

Pittsburgh at West Virginia (straight up) - I like Pitt and their coach's underrated stache. Pitt wins this one.

Notre Dame (+10) at Stanford - Something tells me Chuck Weis will at the very least keep this one close enough for a couple of hours worth of speculation over his eventual firing. Irish with the points.

  7. Alabama (-10) at Auburn (CBS 1:30 PM) -
I'll take auburn with the point but i think bama will win
    11/28/2009
Clemson (-3) at South Carolina (ESPN 11:00 AM) - i'll show some sec bias and go with the cocks

Ole Miss (-8) at Mississippi State (SEC Network 11:21 AM) - i'll take ole miss to win and cover

Florida State (+24.5) at Florida (CBS 2:30 PM) -
    jorts win but wont cover

Tennessee (-3) at Kentucky (ESPNU 6:00 PM) - Jackson is back in the secondary so I'll take the vols to win and cover

Arkansas (+3.5) at LSU (ESPN 6:00 PM) - LSU

Georgia (+7.5) at Georgia Tech (ABC 7:00 PM) -
    I'll take the dawgs
    Bonus Picks:

Pittsburgh at West Virginia (straight up) - pitt

Notre Dame (+10) at Stanford -stanford
